Glo Bug

I know a little bit about glo bugs having been there from the very start in the early 1980's and have used them extensively. Over 35 years I and my clients have caught many tens of thousands of fish on glo bugs and anyone who is in denial of their use is just denying themselves of great fishing.!
The wet liners on the Tongariro hated nymphers as they began to take over the normally placid "gentleman's" water and many a time we would go in after they all went home for breakfast and have a ball using glo bugs.
I only ever used small ones size 10 hook but cut as size 12 and I had to tie them myself as I believed the red dot (I used to call it the blood spot) was very important and during the 80's you could not get small dotted glo bugs. This was the key to our success which slowly caught on.
Even today so many anglers are surprised when they frustratedly ask me what am I using on my wet line. ( Yes I use a wet line a lot now days) Its a small glo bug! While they swing a big woolly bugger or like to no avail. During July, August, Sept and October we ONLY use glo bugs! If you want to catch fresh silver fish then use a glo bug!
Use glo bugs on your nymphing line or wet line it makes no difference.
The reason for a size 10 hook is so that the hook gape can get a good bite into the mouth. The smaller size 14 keep pulling out as they only hook in the lip. You can tie small glo bugs on a size 10 hook or even larger as the fish do not see the hook. Also the correct glo bug yarn must be used as it takes on a translucent look when it is in water. DO not go for substitutes.
All of our glo bugs are tied on "specialist egg & glow bug reversed bend grub hooks". Deadly and strong. This too is important.
